ABOUT US

Phaeng Mai Gallery, founded in 1993 in Vientiane, Laos, is a premier textile company dedicated to the preservation and promotion of traditional Lao weaving. Established by master weaver Ms. Phaeng Nanthavongdouangsy and her two daughters, Ms. Kongthong and Ms. Viengkham, the gallery continues a proud family legacy of weaving artistry passed down through generations.

As one of Laos’s first registered textile companies to export internationally, Phaeng Mai Gallery has become a symbol of cultural pride and craftsmanship, offering high-quality handwoven silk and cotton products that reflect the elegance and depth of Lao heritage.

HOW WE WORKS

Weaving traditions have been passed down through generations in their family, forming a strong foundation for producing high-quality and distinctive textiles.
Phaeng Mai is one of the first officially registered weaving companies in Lao PDR for export since the inception of the “New Imagination” national policy. It continues to evolve by developing textile designs in three main styles: traditional, contemporary, and modern Art Piece. All products are created with natural and eco-friendly dyes.

Ms.Kongthong
Nanthavongdouangsy

Biography

Born in Houaphanh Province into a lineage of traditional weavers, Ms. Kongthong Nanthavongdouangsy began weaving at the age of 6. Her academic path led her to earn a Master of Art in Education from the Pyatigorsk University of Philology in Former Soviet Union , after which she returned to her roots in textile arts.

As a master weaver, textile educator, and cultural ambassador, Ms. Kongthong has worked as a consultant for oth National and international organizations, including TDF, UNIDO, UNDP, and DED/GTZ, contributing to projects in Laos, Bhutan, and Thailand.

She is a driving force in the revival and modernization of Lao textiles, blending cultural authenticity with innovative design, while mentoring a new generation of artisans.
